ARCHE

ARCHE: TRADITION REINTERPRETED

The house is orientated along the north-south axis and appears like a ship on a cliff. A subtle kink in the main facade of ARCHE allows an unobstructed view of the mountain panorama in the background. The metal shingle cladding enriches the appearance of the building and gives it an authentic character that reinterprets the history of Appenzell's building culture.

MIRROR IMAGE OF THE REGION

The volume is designed like a plug-in cube:

The glazing allows light to enter the rooms and thus opens the interior to the outside. The rhombus-shaped facade panels and the metal cladding are a modern conversion of the silver-grey weathered wooden shingles that can often be seen in traditional Appenzell houses. ARCHE - a reflection of the inhabitants and an enrichment for the region.
